Course History
Woodhaven Country Club opened on July 3, 1973, as the centerpiece of a planned Fort Worth neighborhood developed on former Boaz Ranch Estate land. A group of investors including Texas Governor John Connally purchased the tract in 1969, with residential development beginning in the 1970s. The course, a par-71 layout measuring around 6,500 yards, winds through hilly terrain in the Woodhaven community. It was designed primarily by Leon Howard, a prolific Texas-based architect born in Graham in 1928 who created numerous public and private courses across the state including Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson and others like Lago Vista and Hidden Falls. Professional golfer Terry Dill also contributed to the design. Howard's traditional style features narrow, tree-lined fairways, doglegs, elevation changes, and limited water hazards, with standout holes on the front nine such as the 200-yard par-3 sixth over water and the lengthy par-5 seventh.
Ownership changed hands over the decades, passing to figures like Lou Scoma before a group of seven investors acquired it around 2014 with plans to revitalize the facility through practice area improvements, tee extensions to reach 7,100 yards, and membership restructuring. The club offered tennis courts, a swimming pool, and event spaces alongside golf. No major professional tournaments or notable historical moments are documented. As of recent years, the property entered foreclosure and was sold for redevelopment, marking the end of its era as an active golf course.
