Course History
Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie, Texas, opened in July 1999 as the ambitious design of Lee Singletary, a PGA of America Class A member and native Texan who founded Singletary Golf Services in 1983. Singletary, captain of Sam Houston State University's 1978 NAIA national championship golf team and a two-time All-American, studied golf course architecture at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. His family background in golf—his father a PGA pro and superintendent, brother a head pro at courses like Las Colinas Country Club—shaped his multifaceted expertise in design, management, and development. Woodbridge, built by the Herzog Development Corporation as the centerpiece of its community, routed through flat terrain with mature hardwoods and streams, creating a par-72 layout stretching to 7,016 yards that challenges skilled players while accommodating others from forward tees. It earned acclaim as one of Texas's top 10 new courses of 1999 by The Dallas Morning News and praise from Golf Digest's Ron Whitten, who played it with Singletary and likened it to a course Ben Hogan would love for its tight, tree-lined fairways, creek-fronted greens, and contoured surfaces.[Singletary Golf Services](http://www.sgsgolf.com/woodbridge.htm)
Selected as the home headquarters of the Northern Texas Section of the PGA of America upon opening, the course hosted the section's offices and drew endorsements from its executive director and USGA officials. Ownership changed in spring 2021 to Advance Golf Partners led by Larry Galloway, who also owns area courses like Sky Creek Ranch and Bridlewood Golf Club. No major renovations are documented, and while it hosts local tournaments and events, no high-profile professional competitions like PGA Tour or USGA championships are recorded.[Wylie News](https://wylienews.com/2021/08/11/woodbridge-golf-club-charts-new-course-with-new-owners/)
