Course History
The South Course at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, forms part of the 27-hole facility designed by Texas native Gary Stephenson. Born in 1965 in Richardson, a Dallas suburb, Stephenson earned a BS in Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University in 1990 after studying biology at Lubbock Christian College. He began his career as an associate designer with Graham & Panks International in Phoenix, working under PGA champion David Graham and architect Gary Panks on fourteen of their seventeen courses, before founding his own firm, The Linksmen, in 1997 upon returning to the Dallas area. Stephenson has designed other North Texas courses including Frisco Lakes Golf Club and contributed to projects like Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos. The Wildhorse courses, the first of three planned for the Robson Ranch 55+ community developed by Edward J. Robson, opened with an initial nine holes in 2001, adding a second nine in October 2002. A third nine followed in 2019. The club has no documented previous names or ownership changes beyond its role in the Robson Ranch development.
