Course History
Whitestone Golf Club, a public course in Benbrook, Texas, opened in May 2000 on 150-158 acres of rolling terrain. The 18-hole championship layout was co-designed by architects Jeff Brauer and Jay Morrish. Brauer, a nationally recognized designer, created notable Texas courses including Cowboys Golf Club and Tangleridge Golf Club. Morrish, who collaborated with Tom Weiskopf on acclaimed designs like Troon North in Scottsdale, also worked on Los Colinas Sports Club in Irving and La Cantera in San Antonio. Upon opening, the course was named one of Texas' Top 10 New Public Courses and later voted Best Public Golf Course by Star-Telegram readers in 2013.
Originally owned by Somerset-Whitestone Golf, Ltd., the course faced financial difficulties, leading to foreclosure in late 2014 by a Boston-based investment firm after default on a $2.9 million loan. The new owners brought in Austin-based Touchstone Golf for management and improvements to infrastructure and marketing. No major architectural renovations are documented. The club has hosted Texas Golf Association events, including the 2001 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play won by Hall of Famer Chip Stewart, the 2023 North Regional Senior Amateur won by John Schaefer, and the 2024 North Regional Four-Ball.
