Course History
The Vaquero Club course in Westlake, Texas, was designed by Tom Fazio, a Hall of Fame architect known for over 200 courses including Shadow Creek, Pinehurst No. 4, and several other Texas layouts such as Dallas National and Stonebriar Country Club's Fazio Course. It opened in 2001 on 525 acres of the former Circle T Ranch, originally owned by the Hunt brothers and later developed by Discovery Land Company into an exclusive private community. The site passed through Hillwood ownership before Discovery Land's involvement.
The layout underwent prior updates credited to architects including Beau Welling, Roy Bechtol, Dennis Wise, Andrew Green, and Chris Gray around 2015, followed by a comprehensive redesign led by Andrew Green from 2022 to 2023. Green's transformation introduced new holes, reduced bunker acreage from nearly seven to two acres while increasing their number, rebuilt every green with distinctive contours, widened fairways, and rerouted several holes for greater variety and playability.
The club has attracted notable members such as PGA Tour professionals Justin Leonard, Harrison Frazar, Brian Watts, and Brant Jobe, golf instructor Hank Haney, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe, Texas Rangers player Mark Teixeira, and FOX NFL Sunday host Terry Bradshaw. It hosted a qualifier for the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur and remains invitation-only within its gated enclave.
