A low-key great Jay Morrish layout in the Lewisville/Carrollton/Colony/Frisco corridor.

Our Review

Low-key one of the better layouts on the entire 2026 list. A stern test of golf while also offering plenty of scorable holes — that combination makes the Jay Morrish design a treat from opening tee to final putt. The clubhouse is very nice with a relaxed, family atmosphere perfect for young execs with families. Pool, fitness center, tennis — all add to the value. If you're looking for a great bargain that checks every box, keep The Lakes at Castle Hills on your radar.

Course History

The Lakes at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas, opened in 1998 as The Golf Club at Castle Hills, an upscale public-access course designed by Jay Morrish. A Colorado native with a landscape architecture degree from Colorado State University, Morrish built his career working for Robert Trent Jones Sr. on Spyglass Hill, George Fazio, and ten years with Jack Nicklaus before partnering with Tom Weiskopf on over 20 courses, including TPC Scottsdale, TPC Las Colinas in Irving, Troon North, Forest Highlands, and DFW-area renovations at Colonial Country Club and Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth, Northwood Club, and Dallas Country Club in Dallas. The course lies within the 2,500-acre Castle Hills master-planned community, originally the Bright family farm and now led by brothers Chris and Clay Bright.

After years of declining conditions under external management, the Brights reclaimed control in fall 2010. The course closed for major renovation in May 2011, directed by Morrish with the Brights and vision from Hank Haney—who moved his teaching academy there—reopening in September 2011 as a semi-private facility renamed The Lakes at Castle Hills to highlight its water hazards. Awarded Renovation of the Year by Avid Golfer, it became a fully private country club in May 2014, adding a resort pool, tennis center, and fitness facility. The club has hosted numerous PGA, state, and regional tournaments alongside member competitions such as The Gauntlet Men's Member-Member and Queen's Crown Women's Invitational.
