Course History
The Golf Club at McKinney in McKinney, Texas, opened in 2002 as a public 18-hole course designed by Lyndy Lindsey. Lindsey, an Arkansas-based architect and former University of Arkansas football player, has designed more than 20 affordable championship courses across six states, including his first project, Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in 1992. The layout at McKinney stretched over 6,800 yards from the back tees with Tiff Eagle Bermuda greens and Bermuda fairways, integrated into the surrounding active community at 3191 Medical Center Drive. No prior names or ownership details are documented.
The course functioned as a semi-private facility with rates as low as $17 via deal sites, attracting value-seeking players. It hosted no documented PGA, USGA, or other notable tournaments, and no famous members or historical moments are recorded. Maintenance challenges emerged later, with reviews citing fast greens but thick rough, high grass, and unplayable bunkers lacking sand—issues the staff planned to address but did not complete. The club closed for business in December 2015 when the operating company ceased operations, likely due to declining membership and economic pressures, with plans to redevelop the site for apartments and retail blocked by local petitions.
