Course History

The Futures Course is a six-hole par-3 short course at The Courses at Watters Creek in Plano, Texas, designed by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard as part of a major renovation completed in January 2013.[Golf News Stories](https://golfnewsstoriesonline.com/news/all/golf_news/weibrings_renovation_of_courses_at_watters_creek_draws_acclaim_players.html) The facility originated as the 27-hole Chase Oaks Golf Club, opened in 1986 and designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, a prolific team known for challenging public courses including other Texas layouts.[TexasGolf.com](https://www.texasgolf.com/golfcourses/chase-oaks-golf-course) After closure around 2011, the city invested over $9 million to transform it into three distinct courses: the 18-hole Traditions (redesigned from the original championship layout), the nine-hole Players Course (par-30), and the Futures Course, emphasizing short-game practice with holes ranging 40-120 yards and minimal bunkers.[Course Website Traditions](https://www.watterscreekgolf.com/golf/the-traditions-course) D.A. Weibring, a five-time PGA Tour and Champions Tour winner from the Dallas area, has designed or renovated numerous regional courses such as Cedar Crest, Bridlewood, and Tenison Park.[Golf Course Finder](https://coursefinder.golf.com/course-profile/6560-Watters-Creek-(Traditions)) The municipal complex hosts junior qualifiers like Drive, Chip and Putt and high school events but no major professional tournaments.[NTPGA](https://www.ntpgajuniorgolf.com/dcp/schedule-and-registration)
