Course History
Texas Rangers Golf Club originated as the Chester W. Ditto Golf Course, a municipal facility in Arlington, Texas, designed by Ken Killian and Dick Nugent and opened in 1982. In mid-December 2016, a $24 million renovation project began, led by Arlington-based architect John Colligan, an Arlington native and University of Texas at Arlington alumnus with degrees in architecture and landscape architecture. Colligan, principal of Colligan Golf Design and a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, worked with associate Trey Kemp to completely reroute the layout, utilizing the site's 55 feet of elevation change, adding water features, 111,000 square feet of bunkers, and improved turf. His other notable designs and renovations include Shady Oaks Country Club and River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth, Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas, Brackenridge Park Golf Course in San Antonio, Lubbock Country Club, and Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, among others in Texas.
The renovated course reopened as the Texas Rangers Golf Club in February 2019 through a branding partnership between Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers MLB team, becoming the world's only Major League Baseball-branded public golf course. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, named after Chester Ditto, opened in March 2021. The course serves as the home facility for the University of Texas at Arlington men's and women's golf teams and hosts the annual Arlington City Amateur. Since 2021, it has been the venue for the Veritex Bank Championship, the only Korn Ferry Tour event in Texas, drawing rising professional golfers for a $1 million purse.
