Course History

Tangle Ridge Golf Club was designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer, an Arlington, Texas-based architect who began his career as an apprentice in Chicago in 1977, working on Kemper Lakes, host of the 1989 PGA Championship. He formed GolfScapes in 1984 and later served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Among his over 50 designs are Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas; the Quarry at Giants Ridge in Minnesota; Sand Creek Station in Kansas; and Colbert Hills in Kansas. The course opened in 1995 as a municipal facility owned by the City of Grand Prairie, located between Joe Pool Lake and the Mountain Creek Escarpment with over 50 feet of elevation change, tree-lined fairways, and a stream bisecting the property. It has earned rankings including 44th among America's best municipal courses by Golfweek in 2009, 16th in Texas by the Dallas Morning News in 2007, and top 10 by Avid Golfer in 2005. No previous names, major renovations, or professional tournaments are documented.
