Course History
Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, originated as Riverlake Country Club, which opened on October 28, 1956, with a grand opening attended by Bob Hope. The course was designed by Press Maxwell, son of renowned Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who created Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, and Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, among others, and renovated Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas. Press Maxwell completed several projects with his father and designed numerous courses independently. In 1972, ClubCorp acquired the property and renamed it Forest Oaks. After selling it in 1980, the final owner, Remy Tabor, renamed it Sleepy Hollow and made improvements to the course and drainage. The facility featured two 18-hole courses—the shorter Lake Course for members and the longer River Course open to the public—both redesigned by Karl Litten in 1981. The club struggled with repeated flooding from the Trinity River, leading to bankruptcy in 1958, and was ultimately condemned by the city of Dallas for flood mitigation in 2003, closing around 2006.
