Course History
Riverside Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas, is a public 18-hole championship course situated along the Trinity River floodplain. The current layout, a par-72 stretching over 7,000 yards, was designed by Roger Packard in collaboration with Dennis Wise and Larry Packard, and opened in 1984. Packard, who began his career under his father E. Lawrence Packard, created notable designs such as Cantigny Golf Club—named Golf Digest's Best New Public Course and a top-25 public track—and courses at Innisbrook Resort, including the PGA Tour-hosting Copperhead (Valspar Championship) and Island layouts, as well as Sweetwater Country Club near Houston. The course blends traditional links-style holes with Texas terrain, featuring water in play on many holes and one of Texas's best sets of par 3s, offering a challenging test for all skill levels.
The facility hosts numerous tournaments and events, capitalizing on its location near DFW Airport, Six Flags, and Arlington attractions, with a pavilion seating 200 for group outings. Ranked among the DFW area's top 25 daily-fee courses, Riverside demands length and accuracy from the tips (slope 132), yet provides enjoyable play from forward tees. No major professional tournaments or significant renovations to the course routing are documented, though its floodplain setting subjects it to periodic flooding risks. The course maintains excellent greens and bunkers, contributing to its reputation as a pure golf experience in the region.
