Course History

Red Oak Valley Golf Course in Red Oak, Texas, opened in 1972 as an 18-hole public layout designed by Leon Howard. Howard, born in Graham, Texas in 1928 and deceased in 2014, earned a master's degree in soil physics from Texas A&M University through a USGA-sponsored assistantship before becoming a prolific architect with over 50 courses across the U.S., the majority in Texas. His designs include DFW-area courses such as Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson (1980), Luna Vista Golf Course in Dallas (1969), Mesquite Municipal Golf Course, and others like Morris Williams Golf Course in Austin and Lago Vista Golf Course. No major renovations, previous names, ownership changes, or notable tournaments hosted by the course have been publicly documented.
