Course History
Prairie Lakes Golf Course's White nine opened in 1963, designed by Texas-born architect Ralph Plummer. A Fort Worth native who caddied at Glen Garden Country Club and studied at Texas A&M University, Plummer began his design career in 1927 assisting John Bredemus before going full-time after World War II. He created or reworked 86 courses, including DFW-area standouts like Preston Trail Golf Club in Dallas and Northwood Club, as well as US Open hosts Colonial Country Club and Champions Golf Club. Elected to the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1956, he served as its president from 1962 to 1963. The White Course forms one of three nines—along with Red and Blue—at this municipal facility owned by the City of Grand Prairie, situated along Mountain Creek Lake. In 2005, the city added Texas's largest putting green. The full 27 holes underwent recent renovations, though specific dates and leaders are undocumented. The course has earned accolades such as Golf Digest's Best Places to Play (2008/2009) and Avid Golfer's #1 Hidden Gem (2006), and it hosts local youth and amateur events like Drive, Chip and Putt qualifiers and LPGA Amateurs outings. No previous names or professional tournaments are recorded.
