Course History
Prairie Lakes Golf Course - Blue Course in Grand Prairie, Texas, forms one of three nine-hole layouts (with Red and White) at the municipal facility owned by the City of Grand Prairie. Designed by Ralph Plummer, a Fort Worth-based architect who began his career assisting John Bredemus in the 1920s before establishing himself post-World War II, the Blue Course opened in 1963 alongside the White Course, with the Red nine added around 2005. Plummer, who learned golf caddying at Glen Garden Country Club and briefly attended Texas A&M, designed or reworked over 80 courses, many in the DFW area including Northwood Club, Preston Trail Golf Club, Colonial Country Club, and Lakewood Country Club. Three of his designs hosted U.S. Opens, emphasizing accuracy over distance.
The Blue Course, often paired with the White for 18 holes totaling around 6,475 yards, features Bermuda grass and weaves around water features and Mountain Creek Lake amid mature mesquite trees. Noted as the most difficult of the three nines with tight woods and challenging par 5s, it underwent renovation in 2006 by John Colligan. The full 27-hole complex has seen recent renovations, including expansion of the practice area to Texas' largest with eight target greens. No previous names, ownership changes, or hosted professional tournaments appear in available records.
