Course History
The Fields Ranch East Course at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas, was designed by Gil Hanse in collaboration with long-time partner Jim Wagner. Hanse, who earned a master's degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University and founded Hanse Golf Course Design in 1993, is renowned for minimalist architecture and high-profile restorations including Winged Foot, Southern Hills Country Club, Los Angeles Country Club North, and Oakland Hills South Course. In the DFW area, he led a major renovation of Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, completed in 2024 ahead of the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge. The course opened to the public on May 2, 2023, as the centerpiece of the 660-acre Omni PGA Frisco Resort, built on the site of the former Bert Fields Headquarters Ranch, a multi-generational family property purchased in 2018. Development followed the PGA of America's December 2018 announcement to relocate its headquarters from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to Frisco, with construction beginning in August 2019 and ground broken in 2021.[Fields Ranch](https://fieldsranch.com), [Golf Club Atlas](https://golfclubatlas.com/countries/pga-frisco-fields-ranch-east-2025/), [Golf Monthly](https://www.golfmonthly.com/news/fields-ranch-east-everything-to-know)
Less than a month after opening, the course hosted the 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship from May 25-28, won by Steve Stricker in a duel with Padraig Harrington, marking the first of over 25 PGA of America events scheduled through 2034. Future majors include the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in 2025, PGA Championship in 2027 and 2034, Senior PGA in 2029, and Women's PGA in 2031. The layout has seen minor adjustments for championships, such as switching the 9th and 18th holes for 2025 and reversing the nines for 2027, but no major renovations are documented. As part of the public-private PGA Frisco campus, it anchors alongside Beau Welling's Fields Ranch West Course, offering accessible championship golf within the larger resort complex.[GOLF.com](https://golf.com/travel/fields-ranch-east-course-debut-pga/), [PGA Tour](https://www.pgatour.com/pgatour-champions/tournaments/2023/kitchenaid-senior-pga-championship/S2023520/past-results), [Top 100 Golf Courses](https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/fields-ranch-east)
