Course History

Pecan Hollow Golf Course opened in 1973 as the Plano Municipal Golf Course, one of the first layouts in the rapidly growing Plano community. It was designed by Don January, a 1967 PGA Championship winner and Texas native who collaborated with fellow PGA Tour professional Billy Martindale through their JanMart Enterprises firm. The pair had recently completed Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, a course originally conceived with J. Press Maxwell that remains a classic in the Southwest and home course to Scottie Scheffler. January and Martindale developed around 23 courses together, primarily in Texas, blending January's playing expertise with strategic design elements like bunkers, water, and trees on Plano's flat terrain. The course features wide fairways but challenging finishes with long par 4s guarded by water.

Following a year-long renovation led by the Plano-based Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design team of D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard, Pecan Hollow reopened on November 1, 2011. The project introduced a rerouted layout with 11 new holes, enlarged Miniverde greens, 38 new bunkers, expanded practice facilities including a lighted driving range and five-hole short course, and tips stretched to 7,026 yards across five tee sets. It remains a public facility and longstanding metroplex favorite, hosting local leagues like the Plano Senior Men’s Golf Association but no major professional tournaments.
