Course History
The Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas, was designed by golf course architect Tripp Davis, founder of Tripp Davis and Associates, and PGA Tour professional Justin Leonard, a 12-time winner on the tour. Davis, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects with a background as a competitive golfer, drew inspiration from early American golf architecture, including Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links of America, and Garden City Golf Club. The course complements Davis's nearby Tribute Golf Links, which emulates Scottish links, and together they form Golf Clubs at The Tribute on the shores of Lewisville Lake. Construction began in February 2008, was completed in summer 2009, and the course officially opened in fall 2010. No previous names or major ownership changes have been documented, and the club appears to be owned by the same entity behind The Tribute.
