Course History
The course opened in 1988 as Twin Wells Municipal Golf Course, designed by Brian Ault of Ault, Clark & Associates. Built on a former landfill site near the Trinity River in Irving, Texas, it served as a public municipal facility managed by the City of Irving but faced ongoing issues with flooding, sinkholes, and maintenance. These challenges led to its closure in October 2016 for a comprehensive $5 million renovation project announced by city officials.
John Colligan, principal of Colligan Golf Design in Arlington, Texas, led the redesign. Colligan, who holds degrees in architecture/environmental design and landscape architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington, specializes in restoring historic courses by architects such as A.W. Tillinghast and Alister MacKenzie. His DFW-area projects include renovations at Shady Oaks Country Club and River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth, as well as designs like Mansfield National Golf Club. The work at Twin Wells, which began construction in late 2017, involved rerouting eight holes, installing a new irrigation system, reshaping TifEagle greens to USGA specs, reconstructing tees and fairways, adding 27 bunkers, and planting over 20 acres of native prairie grasses for a links-style appearance. The course reopened in 2019 as Irving Golf Club, now part of Twin Wells Park within the city's parks system.
No notable professional tournaments or famous members are documented. The club hosts corporate, charity, and association outings.
