Course History

The Creek Course at Indian Creek Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas, was designed by Dick Phelps for the city of Carrollton and opened in 1983 as the facility's first 18-hole layout. Phelps, a Texas-based architect known for municipal courses in the DFW area such as Iron Horse Golf Course, created 36 holes total in the floodplain of Indian Creek and the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, with the Creek Course featuring water hazards on every hole amid narrow fairways lined by cedar, oak, mesquite, and elm trees. The Lakes Course followed in 1987. In 2004, Jeffrey D. Brauer led a complete renovation of the Creek Course, investing $3 million to improve playability and financial viability; Brauer, who has designed or renovated over 200 courses with other DFW work including River Bend Country Club, helped it earn Golf Digest's Best Affordable list and turned operational losses into profits. The course endured severe flooding from heavy 2015 rains and 2016 Spring floods, closing for over a year but reopening in excellent condition thereafter. Today it ranks among the DFW area's top public options per Golf Digest and Avid Golfer, with recent bunker renovations noted. No previous names or major professional tournaments are documented; it remains a city-owned public facility, managed by Orion Golf.
