Course History
Hurricane Creek Country Club opened in 1968 as one of the first member-owned country clubs in North Texas, designed by Leon Howard. A Texas A&M graduate with a master's in soil physics sponsored by the USGA, Howard designed numerous courses primarily in Texas, including Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson and Woodhaven Country Club in Fort Worth, both in the DFW area. The course was developed by local investors from Anna, Van Alstyne, and Howe who each contributed $100, selecting the site near two government lakes built around 1956. US 75 was constructed in 1969, after which dues increased to build access road from the highway. The first nine holes hosted a scramble event on October 1, 1967, with full opening the following year under initial manager Luke Adams, who grew membership to 450. Oscar Williams, WWII veteran and longtime grounds superintendent from 1973 to 1985, shaped much of the early maintenance, including building the first sand trap, transplanting trees, and stocking lakes; a short game area bears his name since 2016. The club remains privately member-owned, the only one in Collin County, with around 450 golf members. A major renovation by Beau Welling Design began in fall 2025, closing the course until fall 2026. No major professional tournaments or previous names are documented.
