Course History
The Heath Golf & Yacht Club course in Heath, Texas, is an 18-hole private championship layout designed by Austin-based architect Roy Bechtol, who has over 40 years of experience in golf course architecture and land planning through his firm Bechtol Golf Design and Planned Environments Inc. Bechtol, a University of Texas alumnus with degrees in architecture and landscape architecture, began designing courses in the late 1970s, collaborating with figures like Pete Dye on Austin Country Club and creating notable Texas tracks such as University of Texas Golf Club, River Place Country Club, and Comanche Trace. His work often integrates golf with resort and residential communities, master planning nearly 4 million acres. While he has few designs in the DFW area, Heath represents one of the rare recent additions, one of just two golf courses built there since 2010.
Ground was broken on January 22, 2018, with grassing starting that August and the course opening in summer 2019 on over 200 acres along Lake Ray Hubbard. The par-72 layout blends links and parkland styles, featuring wide corridors, five sets of tees per hole, zoysia tees, Bermuda fairways, TifEagle greens, and white-sand bunkers in a pastoral, walkable routing amid rolling terrain, creeks, ponds, and wildlife corridors. Developed as the centerpiece of a 787-acre master-planned resort community with 1,200 luxury homes, the course has no documented previous names or prior golf identity on the site. No major renovations have been reported.
The club hosted USGA U.S. Open local qualifying on May 12, 2025, for a field of 120 players, marking an early notable event less than six years after opening. It serves as the private golf facility for community members and guests, complemented by a lakeside clubhouse, pool, tennis, fitness center, and lake access.
