Frisco Lakes Golf Club opened in 2008, designed by Gary Stephenson, a Texas-based golf course architect born and raised in the Dallas suburb of Richardson. Stephenson holds degrees in biology from Lubbock Christian College and landscape architecture from Texas Tech University. He began his career in 1990 as an associate designer with Graham & Panks International, working on projects including Tierra Verde Golf Club in Arlington, Texas, before founding his own firm, The Linksmen (now Gary Stephenson Design), in 1997 following the partnership's end. His portfolio includes other North Texas courses such as Wildhorse Golf Club in Denton and Sun City Texas in Georgetown, as well as collaborations like Teton Springs with Byron Nelson and Steve Jones, and remodels at Fairmont St. Andrews in Scotland [Linksmen.com](https://linksmen.com/aboutus.html).
