Course History
Duck Creek Golf Course in Garland, Texas, opened in 1983 as the private Oakridge Country Club, designed by the architectural team of Jack Kidwell and Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Kidwell, an Ohio-based architect, PGA professional, and course superintendent who served as ASGCA president from 1979 to 1980, partnered with Hurdzan—whom he mentored from a young age—in the mid-1970s after founding his firm in 1957. Together and individually, they created over 100 courses, mostly public and municipal layouts in the Midwest emphasizing affordability, maintainability, and playability for everyday golfers. No other DFW-area designs by the pair are prominently noted.
The club filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010 and shuttered, leaving the course overgrown until new ownership under Duck Creek Golf LP reopened it as a public daily-fee facility in November 2013. Improvements included reseeding the par-71 layout, repairing the irrigation system, and minor clubhouse updates, but no major redesigns by named architects occurred. The course has hosted no documented professional tournaments or notable events and functions independently outside municipal systems.
