Diamond Oaks Country Club

Fort Worth, TX Private18 holesPar 70 Charles Akey70.3 / 100

North Fort Worth value with loyal long-time members and one of the most fun member-guest tournaments around.

Our Review

Continues to thrive in north Fort Worth. The area around the course is seeing new development, which will continue improving overall quality. A clubhouse renovation completed in 2022 really added a great aesthetic — the food and amenities reflect that investment. Member and member-guest tournaments are some of the most fun anywhere in the city, and it shows with the loyalty of the long-time contingent. The course is really solid — tight in spots but doesn't play long, so plenty of birdie opportunities. One of the best overall value clubs in the area.

Course History

Diamond Oaks Country Club sits on a portion of the 3,600-acre Haltom Ranch, established by G.W. Haltom in the early 1900s near Fort Worth, Texas. His grandson Robert Haltom drove the vision for the country club. The clubhouse, designed by architect-engineer Wyatt C. Hedrick, opened May 22, 1960. Golf course construction began July 8, 1960, with Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan in attendance at groundbreaking. Charles Akey, a local club professional who served as field engineer for Robert Trent Jones and Ralph Plummer, designed the par-70 course, which debuted January 20, 1962.

The club expanded in 1973 with a second-story clubhouse addition including ballroom and dining spaces. In the 1990s, tennis courts became practice area and the pool was filled. New private ownership marked the 50th anniversary in 2011, prompting a three-phase renovation of clubhouse and course from 2012 to 2014. Clubhouse interiors and exteriors were overhauled in 2021-2022 after a severe winter storm, adding suites and windows. Guidance from Fort Worth native and PGA champion Mark Brooks aided recent improvements, with green renovations planned for 2025.

Highlights include a 1965 exhibition win by head pro Doug Higgins and Raymond Gafford over Nelson and Don January. It hosted the inaugural 1981 Lee Trevino Charity Golf Classic, USGA qualifiers, and Fort Worth Junior Golf Association championships. In 2019, the MGA Cup became The Conditt Cup, honoring Wendell Conditt for his role in club stability and Trevino relationship.
