Course History
Dallas National Golf Club opened on August 30, 2002, designed by Tom Fazio, a prominent architect from the Philadelphia suburbs who began his career in 1962 assisting his uncle George Fazio. Fazio has created more than 200 courses, including many in Golf Digest's top 100 in America and Golfweek's top 100 modern courses, and has overseen modernizations at Pine Valley, Augusta National, Winged Foot, and Merion. The club was the vision of founder John MacDonald, who routed the layout on a 400-acre heavily wooded site in south Dallas previously designated for a quarry before city prohibition. The property features dramatic elevation changes across three ridges and canyons, with limestone outcrops incorporated into holes like the 245-yard 17th. The private club has attracted notable members including six-time major winner Lee Trevino, a Dallas native who praised its beauty and practice facilities, PGA Tour player Hunter Mahan, other tour professionals, and athletes from baseball and hockey. It hosts charity outings linked to the Byron Nelson tournament and Boys & Girls Clubs. The clubhouse underwent renovation and expansion of over 15,000 square feet. By 2025, the course was closed for a multi-million-dollar renovation, planned at $30 million in 2024 reports, though details on the architect and scope remain limited.
