Course History
Dallas Country Club traces its origins to 1896, when a group including Henry L. Edwards, a pioneer of organized golf in Texas, began playing on a field near Oak Lawn and Lemmon Avenues in Dallas.[Texas Golf Hall of Fame](https://www.texasgolfhof.org/exhibit/dallas-country-club) After relocating to its current Highland Park site around 1909, Scottish-American architect Tom Bendelow—known as the Johnny Appleseed of American Golf for designing over 600 courses, including Medinah Country Club No. 3 and East Lake Golf Club—laid out the 18-hole course, which opened in 1912.[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Country_Club)[Top 100 Golf Courses](https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/dallas-country-club) The club hosted early tournaments like the Texas Golf Association championship in 1906 and 1912, visits by Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in 1913, a Bobby Jones exhibition in 1918, the Southern Amateur in 1916, and the Western Amateur in 1950.[Texas Golf Hall of Fame](https://www.texasgolfhof.org/exhibit/dallas-country-club)
The course underwent significant renovations, starting with a major overhaul by Texas architect Ralph Plummer in 1948; Plummer, who apprenticed under John Bredemus and designed numerous DFW-area layouts like Preston Trail Golf Club.[Texas Golf Hall of Fame](https://www.texasgolfhof.org/exhibit/dallas-country-club) Jay Morrish updated it in the late 1980s or 1990s, followed by John Fought's work in 2010-2011, which evoked classic Donald Ross styling and opened in May 2011 alongside a new clubhouse.[Top 100 Golf Courses](https://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/dallas-country-club)[Golf Course Architecture](https://www.golfcoursearchitecture.net/content/fought-to-renovate-dallas-cc-course) Additional events included Women's Texas Golf Association championships in 1920 and 1934, the Victory Open in 1943, Dallas Open in 1945, and Texas Golf Association titles through 2006.[Texas Golf Hall of Fame](https://www.texasgolfhof.org/exhibit/dallas-country-club) Notable members comprise Texas Golf Hall of Famers Gus Moreland, David “Spec” Goldman, and Don Addington, plus Curtis Cup player Nancy Hager Hale.[Texas Golf Hall of Fame](https://www.texasgolfhof.org/exhibit/dallas-country-club)
