Course History
Buffalo Creek Golf Club opened in 1992 in Rockwall, Texas, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. Weiskopf, a former PGA Tour player who won the 1973 Open Championship, and Morrish, a prolific architect, collaborated on notable courses including TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas in the Dallas area, Forest Highlands in Arizona, and Troon North in Scottsdale. The course was developed by Charles Perry, former president and CEO of Jack Nicklaus' Golden Bear International from 1976 to 1985. Situated along Lake Ray Hubbard, the par-71 layout measures around 7,000 yards and has earned consistent four-star ratings from Golf Digest, top-five rankings in the Dallas area, and top-10 in Texas. Holes 6 and 16 were rated among the state's toughest by the Dallas Morning News. The club hosted USGA qualifying events for the Open, Amateur, and Mid-Amateur, and received Zagat Survey recognition as one of America's top courses in 2006-2007.
The course has changed hands multiple times. The Perry family assumed control around 2020, partnering with KemperSports for management and investing over $6.5 million in enhancements, including a 2021 renovation of all tee boxes with Latitude Bermudagrass sod and bunkers refilled with Premier White sand, plus upgrades to carts, irrigation, kitchen, and the Pavilion known as Betty’s Place. Named among GolfPass's Top 25 Most Improved U.S. courses in 2021, it was nearly closed before this revival but has since ranked highly in Avid Golfer's best public lists. In early 2026, Legacy Golf Properties LLC purchased it and partnered with Troon for operations.
