Course History

The West Course at Bear Creek Golf Club in Irving, Texas, was designed by Ted Robinson Sr., a prolific architect known as the King of Waterscapes who founded his firm in 1954 and created over 180 courses, mainly in California with standout designs like Desert Springs Resort, Ocotillo in Arizona, and Sahalee in Washington. Opened to the public in 1980 alongside its sister East Course, it forms a 36-hole public/resort facility adjacent to DFW Airport, featuring undulating Bermuda fairways, mature oaks, bunkers, and water hazards across 6,690 yards from the tips. The layout preserves natural terrain in classic style, accommodating players of varying abilities with multiple tees.

The club has hosted notable events including PGA Tour Qualifiers, the Texas State Open, AJGA National Tournament, PGA National Golf Series, and NTPGA Sectional Tournaments. It earned recognition as one of Golf Digest's Top 50 Resort Courses in America, one of the Wall Street Journal's 10 Great Places to Golf, and Avid Golfer's Best Place to Host a Corporate Event. Arcis Golf, a Dallas-based operator, acquired the property before 2021 and invested about $1 million in upgrades such as tee box leveling and re-grassing to TifTuf bermudagrass, practice range and cart path improvements, and East Course bunker renovations. No previous names or earlier major renovations are documented.
