Course History
The East Course at Bear Creek Golf Club in Irving, Texas, opened in 1980 as one of two championship layouts designed by Ted Robinson Sr. Robinson, a California-based architect who designed over 160 courses primarily in the western United States, earned the nickname "King of Waterscapes" for his innovative use of water hazards including waterfalls and large greenside features. A graduate of UC Berkeley and USC with a master's in planning, he served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects from 1983 to 1984. Notable designs include Sahalee Country Club, which hosted the 1998 PGA Championship, and Desert Springs Golf Club at JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort. No other DFW-area work by Robinson was identified.
The course, paired with the West Course to form a 36-hole public facility convenient to DFW Airport, has undergone upgrades by operator Arcis Golf around 2021, including bunker renovations on the East Course, tee box leveling and re-grassing to TifTuf bermudagrass, practice range improvements, and cart path enhancements. It has hosted significant events such as PGA Tour qualifiers, the Texas State Open, AJGA National Tournament, PGA National Golf Series, and NTPGA sectional tournaments. Bear Creek has received accolades including Golf Digest's Top 50 Resort Courses in America, The Wall Street Journal's 10 Great Places to Play Golf, and Avid Golfer's Best Place to Host a Corporate Event in the DFW area. No previous names or ownership changes prior to Arcis were documented.
